                        Coaching

                        Cancer
                        Survivors

Surviving cancer is, thankfully, becoming more and more common these days, though this creates a new challenge for cancer survivors. For some survivors, the benefits of coaching are obvious - improved healthy living and activity - but other concerns following survival of cancer also need attention and coaching can play a major part in helping cancer survivors re-focus for their future.

Many people faced with a cancer diagnosis and treatment find their priorities change as a consequence of the experience, but struggle to know just how they can adjust to these changes. As they come out the other side of the treatment, and feel the relief of being in remission, the thought of picking up where their old lives left off sometimes just doesn’t fit how they feel, and a major re-evaluation of their lives can occur.

This is where coaching can help. A study with cancer survivors ( Galantino et al, 2008) found coaching made lasting, positive changes in the lives of cancer survivors. One of the authors of that study, Pam Schmid, commented that, with a coach, “instead of being stuck, they (cancer survivors) have a partner to start moving ahead to be their best.”

As a psychologist and coach who has faced this challenge not once but twice, Colin is uniquely placed to support cancer survivors facing these life challenges to think through what is now important to them and make the changes that will allow them to create the future they aspire to, taking account of this new outlook.

Through coaching sessions with Colin designed to clarify your thinking, identify new and achievable goals, and to support you as you take the steps to make the changes you desire, your journey beyond cancer can be even more positive and fulfilling.
