Finding the "right" image to illustrate this blog post took me quite a while this morning ... particularly given the subject matter of this great article by The Social Media Hat Guy. He makes a powerful argument for why we need to use images or graphics of some sort within our Blog Posts - and across our sites, generally - because of the engagement they invite from readers, the support they can provide for your blog theme, and, most importantly, the vital additional role they play in boosting our Search Engine Optimisation.
But you have to know how you go about taking advantage of them when you use them, and The Social Media Hat Guy explains key factors you need to be aware of, such as the need to name your images using key words, adding ALT text behind the images, etc.
Really good advice for anyone trying to boost their readership and the find-ability of their blog posts, so take a few minutes (that's all you'll need, honest) to read and digest his article: 10 Benefits of Using Images in Blogs.
One of my favourite sources of free images - and the site I used to source the image accompanying this blog - is www.photopin.com. Generally, this site allows you to use the images for free as long as you include a copyright credit ... as below.
By the way ... how did I do with my image selection? Please feel free to let me know your thoughts on the image and the article.
