Marketing is one of those tasks that can so easily get overlooked, especially if you have direct client work that needs your attention. But without regular marketing activity, you may well hit a period where those clients are simply not coming through your door.
One of my favourite authors on marketing your small business is John Jantsch, of Duct Tape Marketing. He's a prolific writer and blogger on just what needs to get done to build your business, and applying his ideas within my business have helped me enormously. In this blog post, he makes a simple case for making marketing a habit, something that you schedule into your diary every week or month - AND STICK TO - so as to generate the referrals and client interactions that your business needs consistently to grow and prosper. The post - Marketing is a Habit, Not an Event - also includes a link to his podcast "presentation" on how to create a month-by-month action plan that is a "must listen" if you are serious about getting on top of your business marketing!
